Who Is Sebastian Zapeta? Suspect Detained For Setting Woman On Fire In NYC Subway

A suspect was detained for setting fire to a woman rider on the New York City subway on Sunday. A viral video surfaced on social media showing the shocking incident when the man, identified as Sebastian Zapeta, set fire to the woman who was sleeping on a Coney Island F train, and watcher her burn.

A manhunt was on for Zapeta on Sunday afternoon which concluded with his arrest. According to the New York Police Department, Zapeta was travelling on a train at 34th Street in Manhattan when he was identified by a passenger, who then tipped off the police.

The New York Post reported citing sources that Zapeta has only been detained and no charges have been pressed on him, as yet. The incident of burning the woman happened at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday and the shocking video soon went viral on social media.

Dorian Geiger, metro reporter for the New York Post, said on X that a lighter has allegedly been found in the possession of the Zapeta. Further details about the suspect will be revealed at NYPD’s slated pressure at Police Plaza at 1 p.m. local time.
